Fluffy and static hair

How does static hair arise?

Static hair is caused by positively charged particles accumulating on the surface of the hair. The drier the hair and the air, the more and faster these particles accumulate. In autumn and winter, the air is very dry compared to other seasons. Your hair is also drier, just as your skin also becomes drier during these seasons. Positively charged particles begin to repel each other at a certain point, which is accompanied by raised hairs and creaking. The drier the hair, the greater the likelihood of static hair. Therefore, people with waves, frizz, or curls are more likely to have frizzy hair, because these hair structures are naturally somewhat drier.

Moisturize your hair

Water, especially hot water, is very drying to skin and hair. In the fall and winter, most of us are more inclined to shower with lukewarm water, which only dries out our hair even more. Well-hydrated hair naturally contains a lot of moisture, so weather conditions have less control over it. For this reason, dry hair is more likely to become frizzy.

Therefore, use a shampoo , hair conditioner , and hair mask to moisturize your hair sufficiently.

Protect your hair

  • In addition to regular care, styling products can also help prevent frizz. You prevent frizz more effectively if moisture can't penetrate your hair. You can do this by applying a protective layer to your hair with a hair serum or hair cream.
  • Avoid styling products that contain alcohol, as this can further dry your hair and absorb more moisture from the air.
  • Never comb your hair when it's wet or damp. Wet hair is more flexible and therefore breaks faster than dry hair. Damage to your hair causes unwanted lint.
  • Comb your hair with a wide-tooth comb while showering, using conditioner. This protective layer ensures your hair doesn't become damaged.
  • Don't go outside with wet hair in the fall and winter! The colder outside temperatures can further damage your hair.
  • Limit your use of hair dryers or flat irons, even if you use heat-protecting hair products.

General advice

  • Avoid plastic combs and brushes. Plastic makes static hair even more static. Use bone or wooden brushes and combs.
  • Synthetic clothing creates more stress. So try to avoid fabrics like nylon and polyester and use natural materials like cotton and wool as much as possible.
